Philadelphia: Last Chance to Request a Mail Ballot — Deadline Is Tuesday, Oct. 27 at 5 p.m.

If you are registered to vote in Philadelphia and want to vote by mail in the November 3 general election, the request deadline is almost here: your mail ballot application must be received by the county election office by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 27, 2026. That is the received-by time — leaving it in a mailbox on Tuesday is not enough. Apply online or in person at vote.phila.gov.

Voting by mail skips the Election Day line and the trip to the polls — worth it if you work long shifts, care for someone at home, live with a disability, or do not have a car. Mail-in ballots need no excuse: any registered Philadelphia voter can use one. (Absentee ballots are a separate option that does need a reason, such as being away from the city or an illness or disability.)

One honest note: the voter registration deadline was October 19 and has passed. This post is for people already registered — if you are registered, everything below is still open to you.

The one-stop option: do it all in a single visit this weekend

At a Satellite Election Office — or at City Hall, Room 140 — you can apply for a mail ballot, fill it in, and hand it back in the same visit. No waiting for the mail at all. Offices are open Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m., and Saturday–Sunday, 10 a.m.–4 p.m. — so this weekend works. Find the locations at vote.phila.gov/seos.

Already have your ballot? The return deadline is just as strict

Your completed ballot must be received by 8:00 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, November 3, 2026. A postmark by 8 p.m. does not count. The safest ways to return it:

  • Drop it at a Satellite Election Office or City Hall Room 140 during the hours above.
  • Use an official ballot drop box — find the nearest one at vote.phila.gov/ballot-drop-off.
  • Mail it early enough to arrive by November 3 — if you are reading this in the last few days, use a drop box or an office instead.

Voting in person instead? Polls are open 7 a.m.–8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 3.

While you are sorting your ballot

The same week holds other deadlines that put money back in Philadelphia households. Run the checker: two minutes of answers, and we screen the programs that fit your household — food help, heating help, utility discounts, property tax relief, and more. Not a government agency. Applying is always free at the official sites. For anything about voting itself, the official source is vote.phila.gov.
