Working Pennsylvanians Tax Credit

Verified · October 23, 2026 Deadline soon — check dates

The Working Pennsylvanians Tax Credit (WPTC) is a state tax credit modeled after the federal Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), created in the 2025-26 state budget signed November 12, 2025. The state credit equals 10 percent of your federal EITC, up to a maximum of $805. If you qualify for the federal EITC, you automatically qualify for the state credit. It is a refundable tax credit, so you can receive it even if you do not owe Pennsylvania income tax. Beginning with the 2026 tax season, the credit will provide $193 million in relief to 940,000 working Pennsylvanians.

Organization
Pennsylvania Department of Revenue
Who qualifies
You must have earned income in Pennsylvania, qualify for the federal EITC, and file both your federal Form 1040 and your PA-40 state tax return
Documents needed
A copy of your federal Form 1040 - the Department of Revenue must receive it to calculate your credit; paper filers should include a copy of Form 1040 with the PA-40
How to apply
File your federal Form 1040 and claim the EITC, then file your PA-40; the Department of Revenue will automatically calculate your WPTC and apply it to reduce your PA taxes or increase your refund. You can file your PA-40 for free on myPATH, the Department of Revenue's online filing system. The easiest way is to file your federal and state returns online at the same time.
