Veterans Day in Philadelphia 2026: the parade is Sunday, November 8 — and the help that runs all year

Veterans Day itself is Wednesday, November 11, 2026 — a federal holiday, so expect government offices and banks to close. Philadelphia holds its big public celebration the weekend before. Here are the verified details, plus the year-round doors Philly veterans use most.

Sunday, November 8 — Philadelphia Veterans Day Parade & Festival

The 12th Annual Philadelphia Veterans Day Parade and Festival takes place Sunday, November 8, 2026, starting at noon. The parade marches along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway and ends in a festival at Eakins Oval, in front of the Art Museum. It is free and held rain or shine. Go for the parade; stay for the festival — veterans service organizations and city agencies table there, which makes it one of the easiest days of the year to ask a benefits question in person and get pointed to the right office.

The year-round doors

  • VA health care — Philadelphia’s VA hospital is the Corporal Michael J. Crescenz VA Medical Center, 3900 Woodland Avenue, main number 215-823-5800. If you served and never enrolled in VA health care, enrollment is the first call to make — coverage is broader than most veterans expect, including free toxic-exposure registry exams.
  • BenePhilly (800-994-5537) — free, one-on-one help applying for state and federal benefits of every kind. If paperwork is the wall between you and a benefit you earned, this is the door. See our BenePhilly page.
  • PA 211 Southeast (dial 2-1-1) — one call connects veterans to local housing, food, utility, and crisis help. See our PA 211 page.
  • Free legal help — Community Legal Services (215-981-3700) and Philadelphia Legal Assistance (215-981-3800) handle benefits appeals, housing, and debt cases; older veterans can also call SeniorLAW Center at 1-877-727-7529.
  • SNAP, with a 2025 change veterans should know — since November 1, 2025, veterans are no longer automatically exempt from SNAP’s general work rules; the exemption now covers adults 18–64 only through another qualifying category (for example, a child under 14 at home, pregnancy, or a certified inability to work 80 hours a month). If your SNAP was cut after a work-rule notice, do not assume the decision was right — ask the County Assistance Office or BenePhilly to review it. Our SNAP page has the current gross income limits.
  • Property Tax / Rent Rebate — veterans 65 and older (and widows and widowers 50+, and adults on disability) with income up to $48,110 can get $380–$1,000 back — up to $1,500 in Philadelphia with the city supplement. The 2026 filing deadline is December 31, 2026. See the rebate page.

However you spend the day — on the Parkway, at a ceremony, or quietly — thank you for your service. If a benefit you earned is still sitting unclaimed, run the checker and let us help you find it.

Not a government agency. Applying is always free at the official sites.
